I’ve been thinking lately about all of these social networking sites, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and so on. We didn’t have all of this stuff ten years ago, but now everyone seems to think that having them is absolutely necessary in today’s society, that they simply couldn’t get along without them at all. I don’t know where this idea came from. I don’t use them, I never have. I feel like it removes something, the personal element from human interaction. Resorts everything to words and text, images. There is no feeling, no human touch. It feels cold and impersonal to me, even if you know someone, just to vaguely “know” them and hear from them once a week or once a month. I don’t think I could ever have a friend like that. Either I know someone and trust them completely and consider them a friend or I don’t know them at all.
I have an adult Doberman who comes with me almost everywhere I go. About two years ago, my best friend was in a car accident with her dog in the car and her dog didn’t survive. This made me really think about my dog’s safety when he’s in the car so I got a seatbelt for him. It’s like a harness that clips into the car’s seat belt. It is comfortable and padded and I feel much better when he has it on. It was an adjustment at first because he’s used to lying down across the backseat or hanging his head out the window and the seatbelt makes him sit upright and he can’t reach the window. After some work, teaching him about the seat belt he is used to it now and hops right in the car, sits upright and waits for me to clip him in. I highly recommend this device for anyone who travels with their dog. The dog seat belts come in all sizes.
My day is going great, it is a little chilly out but that’s to be expected in November. Currently the water is turned off as they are replacing a water heater in my apartment complex. No worries for me, I made sure to have some h20 on hand for this occasion. I also took some gifts and food that I purchased for a needy family over to my church as an expression of the holiday spirit. I am also happy to report I have eaten well today. I have had several servings of fruits and vegetables as well as a wonderful serving of chicken. Let’s see, good weather, new water heater, holiday season, good food, this all equals a good day!
